This entry is dedicated to the “bruhs bruhs” John & Xenia. This is the story of how I got to be a part of their amazing first date. At the time Jazzy Jeff and I were in search of a new hobby. I really wanted to try hiking and thought that by buying some hiking shoes I would attract the idea into existence! Just to speed up the process I also hinted the idea to Jazzy Jeff in the most discrete possible way 😏. Before I knew it he was planning our next trip! We were going to be venturing off in Washington DC and then head to Virginia to hike McAfee knob. Joining us was Mr. Worldly John, of course, and two special guest John Q & Xenia.

Oh man these two little lovebirds were practically on their first date. Xenia traveled all the way from New York to join us in Washington to see John; trust me we were all shocked 😳! John out of all people! LOL πŸ˜‚ I kid, I kid, I love that dude.

In Washington we did some pretty cool site seeing one of which included a museum dedicated to the holocaust era and wow what an impactful history.

They even had one of the survivors as a special guest speaker. Makes you really wonder and appreciate life, making all obstacles insignificant compared to historical circumstances. I know I’m going to digress here just a tad bit; but being raised by a man that went through the before, during, and aftermath of the Cuban revolution I can honestly say that history is something that can always be appreciated. And with that I say enjoy what you can while you can. After a day filled with museums and historical monuments like the one below it was time to experience some outdoor adventures!

Side note Jazzy Jeff and Mr. Worldly planned out this entire trip. They didn’t find out until the day before that it was going to take us four hours to get to McAfee knob, four hours to hike up the mountain, another three hours to hike down, and a four hour drive to get back home! If that wasn’t enough math for you to top it all off we had an early flight back to Good ol’ Florida. I don’t know how they did it but they managed to wake us up early enough to buy some flashlights and hit the road. At this point only Jazzy Jeff and Mr. Worldly knew the plan everyone else had no idea of what was going to go down. After four hours of driving we finally made it to our destination! I was so freaking excited! Our first hike! Little did I know how hard it was going to be. I mean in our defense it was our first time doing this. But hey, we pulled through and accomplish our mission and boy was it worth it! The scenery was absolutely beautiful!

The bar was definitely set exceptionally high for Xenia and John’s future dates. This was the hike that got all of us hooked to the outdoorsy adventures! It was like a light bulb went off “Wow there’s so much to see and we all want to see it!” We had merely just touch the surface. Flash forward a few hours and Polaroid pics it was time to head back down. Remember those flash lights I mentioned, well now I understood why we needed them. We were going to be making our way down in the dark. And this wasn’t your usual darkness, it was pitch black. So dark you couldn’t even see your own hand in front of your face.

Fortunately we made it down safe and left our landmark in a hidden journal. If you ever do decide to go to McAfee knob remember to find and sign the journal; let me know about your experience. After a long and exhausting day poor Mr. Worldly was the one who drove back four hours while everyone else began to knock out one by one. At least something good came out of it. That drive actually led to Mr. Worldly’s epiphany moment! That’s a whole other story in itself. Anyways halfway through the middle of nowhere my bladder decided it needed to go, really really bad. I felt like I was going to explode! So we got off the nearest exit and it literally look like the town from that horror movie “Wrong Turn” yeah it was like a ghost town. I peed at an abandoned gas station behind a truck and got the heck out of there. By the time we got home it was 2 AM and our flight was scheduled for 6 AM we didn’t miss that flight by the hair on our chinny chin chin. They locked the doors on us before Mr. Worldly and John Q could get there. Jazzy Jeff and I were inventing any sob story that would get those doors to open and finally it worked and we made it onto our flight! Yes!

That was the beginning of our hiking adventures and of course Xenia and John’s romance ❀️

You definitely have to try it. You will love it! My advice would be to just go for it you won’t regret it at all. You should try angels landing trail in Utah has been the one with the best scenery!
